Early April 2025 – Whitby Motorhome Trip
Share
📍 Location: York House Caravan Park, near Whitby
Campsite Overview 🏕
York House Caravan Park is a well-maintained and friendly site, located just 2.5 miles from both Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay.
- Facilities:
- Onsite bar (open seasonally – check dates before booking)
- Washing and toilet facilities (clean but could use a refresh)
- Levelling ramps required for most pitches
- Practical and user-friendly amenities
- Approx. £25 per night with electric hook-up (EHU)
Walk to the Coast 🚶
You can begin a scenic walk right at the site entrance.
- Be cautious of the road – it’s a bit busy at first
- After that, the path opens up and is well-marked
- You’ll walk through working farmland, so dogs must be on a lead
I was lucky with the weather – the sun was shining and the views were stunning. Eventually, you’ll reach the coastal path.
- Turn left and enjoy walking along the cliff edge (it’s close!)
- I kept my dog on the lead – didn’t fancy a 999 call!
You'll likely see other walkers – it's part of the UK coastal path. The route brings you face to face with the impressive ruins of Whitby Abbey, a true landmark of the area.
Watch out for Goths and Vampires as you get closer!
Abbey Farm Showfield 🏞
As you enter Whitby, you’ll pass through Abbey Farm Showfield Campsite.
- It looks fantastic, with pitches right on the cliff edge
- Definitely a place to consider for a future stay!
Exploring Whitby 🏡
After passing through the campsite, you’ll descend the famous 199 steps into Whitby.
- The town is picturesque, quirky, and full of charm
- Don’t miss the local shops and Jet jewellery
- I stopped at a nice café where I could sit outside with the dog and watch the world go by
Return via the Cinder Path 🚶
Using the OS Maps app, I found a return route inland:
- Known as the Cinder Path, it’s a disused railway line
- Very straight and easy to follow – a pleasant walk back to camp
- As I left Whitby, I was lucky to see the swing bridge opening to let boats pass – a lovely bonus to end the day!
